Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infections

Urinary tract infections are commonly seen in women and children. They are caused by bacteria multiplying in the urinary system. The most common cause is bacteria present on the rectum or vagina entering the urinary tract and forming an infection. Women are more susceptible to this infection during sexual intercourse. Another cause of urinary tract infection is holding back urine for long periods, which increases the chances of catching infection. Birth control measures like insertion of diaphragms, tubes in the bladder for surgery and unclean toilets also cause urinary tract infections.

Victims of this Infection

Infants with abnormalities of the urinary tract may contract this infection, which can be successfully cured. Diabetic patients are more likely to get this infection. Women who frequently change their sexual partners or often indulge in sexual activity also have a high chance of contracting this infection.

Home Remedies for Urinary tract infections from Fruits

Blueberry and Cranberry have antioxidants in them and are useful in clearing urinary tract infections if taken regularly as undiluted juice. Citrus is profoundly rich in Vitamin C. Coconut water and Citrus juice combination improves the urination, controls infection and lessens pain if consumed daily. Lemon juice, a rich source of Vitamin C, along with a pinch of salt acts wonderfully well in acute situations. Grapes prevent kidney stones from forming and help urinate consistently and pass through the bacteria. Similarly juice prepared from watermelon seeds are known to improve urination, reduce burning and infections.

Home Remedies for Urinary tract infections from Herbs

There are several home remedies from herbs which are available in nature in their purest form, from which necessary ingredients for urinary tract infections can be prepared. Uva Ursi a herb containing arbutin kills the bacteria for effective results. Many herbs with diuretic substances increase urination and wash off the bacteria in the urine. Hydrangea, Parsley and Dandelion leaves are examples for this type of herbs. Horsetail, Marshmallow root and Mullein which can be naturally obtained reduce inflammation, increase the capacity to get rid of bacteria and increase the immune capacity. Goldenseal and Oregon grape with inbuilt berberine prevent the disease causing bacteria from sticking to the bladder walls and completely pass them through the urine.

Home Remedies for Urinary tract infections from Plants and Flowers .

Plants and Flowers can also be useful in preparing home remedies for urinary tract infections. Nasturtium seeds, leaves and flowers all have natural antibiotics in them that are extremely useful in treating urinary tract infections. Horseradish root contains Vitamin C and antibiotics in pure form can help in containing urinary tract infections. Plants rich in beta-carotene assist in fighting the bacteria effectively. Vitamin C increases the urine’s acidity levels considerably and in such conditions this infection cannot survive. Fruit bearing Plants having high amounts of Vitamin C wards off the bacteria well. Corn silk or Indian corn can be used effectively in treating urinary tract infections due to its diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties. Pipsissewa leaves and flowers are anti microbial and a good disinfectant for urinary tract infections.

Aroma Therapy

Mix Bergamot, Frankincense, Tea tree, Sandalwood and Juniper oils in equal proportion, massage the bladder well and the symptoms ease well. This treatment can be continued for three to four days even after the symptoms subside.

Home Remedies for Urinary tract infections from Kitchen

Baking soda mixed with a glass of water when taken increases the pH of urine and immediately reduces the symptoms. Vinegar added to water kills germs, nourishes the body and reduces urinary tract infections. These home remedies for urinary tract infections can be taken regularly without getting any side effects and the number of times per day can be as per your convenience. For some, placing a heating pad on the lower abdomen relieves the pain.

Prevention

Drinking plenty of water increases urination and allows the bacteria to completely pass through. Frequent urination does not allow the bacteria to stick to the bladder walls and multiply. Clean the Anus thoroughly after the bowels to prevent the bacteria from entering the vagina or urethra. Bathtubs should be avoided and shower baths should be considered. Genitals should be cleaned before and after sexual intercourse to clean out the bacteria from entering the vagina. Tight clothes and under garments are to be discarded if urinary tract infection symptoms are present, to ease the bladder. Artificial sweeteners should be avoided at all costs.

All these home remedies for urinary tract infections should be used in consultation with a qualified doctor for better and long lasting solution to the problem.

Dissolve 1/4 tsp of baking soda in large glass of water and drink. Follow with another glass of water when you are thirsty. This takes the pain of a urinary infection away and starts to kill the infection. It really works.
